New quarter design honors former US representative Patsy Mink
A new quarter design featuring Patsy Mink, the first woman of color and the first Asian-American woman elected to Congress, has been released.
Announcement: The United States Mint announced the designs for the third year of the American Women Quarters Program on Thursday. The reverse side of the coins feature designs “emblematic of the accomplishments and contributions of trailblazing American women.”
The Mint will begin issuing five new quarters for each year between 2022 and 2025.
About Mink: Mink, a third-generation Japanese American born and raised on Maui, was a former U.S. representative from Hawaii who served in the Carter administration. Her coin design depicts Mink with a lei around her neck holding her Title IX legislation, which was later renamed the Patsy T. Mink Equal Opportunity in Education Act.
