Photos: 20 Asian celebrities whose gorgeous looks stunned at Met Gala 2023
By Bryan Ke
Hundreds of people gathered at the Met Gala this week to celebrate one of the fashion industry’s most iconic designers, the late Karl Lagerfeld.
Four hundred guests, including actors, musicians, designers and models, attended the annual gathering held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on the Upper East Side in New York on Monday.
The invitation-only gathering, which takes place annually on the first Monday of May for the benefit of the museum’s Costume Institute, holds different themes each year.
As part of the theme, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” designers were asked to create an outfit based on their interpretations of the works and designs of the late German fashion icon. These clothes would then be paraded by their celebrity guests on the red carpet in front of the cameras.
From actor Michelle Yeoh to BLACKPINK’s Jennie, here are some of the Asian and Asian American celebrities who graced and bedazzled the Met Gala 2023 red carpet on Monday:
Michelle Yeoh
Yeoh, who won the best actress award at the 95th Academy Awards for “Everything Everywhere all at Once,” stunned spectators with her long black-and-white gown partnered with knee-high leather boots as she walked the red carpet on Monday.

Ke Huy Quan
Quan, who won the best supporting actor award at the Oscars for “EEAAO,” was spotted rocking a very slick look with his killer Dior Men pinstripe suit, black fingerless leather gloves and shades — an outfit similar to what the late Lagerfeld was famously known to wear.
Stephanie Hsu
Wearing a Valentino ensemble, the Academy Award-nominated actor showed up at the Met Gala 2023 red carpet in a “gown embroidered with all-over black sequins and a white popeline shirt with black tie,” the Italian fashion brand explained. The dress was said to have been designed specifically for Hsu by Pier Paolo Piccioli.
BLACKPINK’s Jennie
Jennie, whose full name is Jennie Kim, attended her first Met Gala event wearing a dress from Chanel. Sharing the same Lagerfeld-inspired black-and-white color motif as Yeoh, the K-pop star appeared in a white, off-shoulder mini-dress with a black ribbon that wrapped around her body to highlight the white camellia flower, finishing off the look with black, elbow-length gloves.
Simu Liu
Like Quan, the Marvel star also went with an outfit inspired by Lagerfeld’s own classic getup, donning a Versace tuxedo, a tie and necklace that complimented the ensemble, and a pair of black leather gloves.
Jackson Wang
Another celebrity who took Lagerfeld’s designs to heart is GOT7’s Jackson Wang, one of the only two K-pop artists invited to the Met Gala this year. He donned a black military Louis Vuitton jacket complete with gloves and shades.

Song Hye-kyo
“The Glory” star Song Hye-kyo also graced the Met Gala red carpet on Monday with her stunning pale pink silk and lace dress by Fendi, for which she is an ambassador.
Ashley Park
Ashley Park, who stars in “Emily in Paris” and “Joy Ride,” strutted the Met Gala 2023 red carpet with a punk rock look. Dressed in a fishnet gown designed by American designer Michael Kors, Park completed her jaw-dropping ensemble with fingerless gloves and a pearl belt.
Mindy Kaling
The “Velma” star shone brightly in her sparkling white dress created by the American-born designer Jonathan Simkhai, whose parents are Iranian immigrants.
Priyanka Chopra-Jonas
Just like Hsu, Indian actor Priyanka Chopra-Jonas also donned a black-and-white Valentino dress, with the shade of black being more prominent in the ensemble.
Vera Wang
World-renowned designer Vera Wang also graced the Met Gala with her presence as she accompanied “Emily in Paris” star Lily Collins on the red carpet.
Olivia Rodrigo and Conan Gray
Rodrigo was joined by her musician “bestie” Conan Gray, who also donned a Thom Browne outfit at the gala.

Appearing in what seemed to be a dress made from long strands of yarn created by American fashion designer Thom Browne, Filipino American singer Olivia Rodrigo channeled her inner Audrey Hepburn in micro-bangs as she strutted the red carpet.
Christine Chiu
“Bling Empire” star Christine Chiu was on fire at Monday night’s Met Gala with her blazing red vintage Chanel dress.
Wendi Deng and Grace Murdoch
Grace Murdoch was joined by her mother, American entrepreneur Wendi Deng, on the red carpet on Monday in pale tulle dresses. Deng’s dress featured beautifully crystal-embroidered flowers, while Murdoch’s dress had the same embroidery but with butterflies instead.
Sora Choi
Like Rodrigo and Gray, South Korean fashion model Sora Choi also wore a custom Thom Browne downfilled coatdress that looked absolutely fierce.
Alia Bhatt
British actor of Indian descent Alia Bhatt stunned everyone at the Met Gala with her staggering white, long dress made from 100,000 pearls. The amazing gown was made by Nepalese American designer Prabal Gurung.
