Olivia Rodrigo, Jungkook, TXT and more land 2023 MTV EMA nominations
The MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) have unveiled their nomination list for 2023, and many talents of Asian descent are featured across different categories.
Olivia Rodrigo: The 20-year-old Filipino American singer-songwriter earned a whopping total of six nominations, falling closely behind Taylor Swift, who leads with seven nods. Rodrigo, who released her second studio album “GUTS” last month, was nominated for Best Artist, Best Pop, Best U.S. Act, Biggest Fans and Best Song and Best Video for her hit track “vampire.”
Jungkook: This year’s nominees reportedly include 26 first-timers, including BTS’ Jungkook, who is the most-nominated K-pop soloist for the upcoming MTV EMAs. Jungkook, 26, snagged three nominations, including Best K-pop, Biggest Fans and Song of the Year for his hit summer single “Seven” featuring Latto.
Tomorrow X Together: K-pop boy band Tomorrow X Together (TXT) also became the most-nominated K-pop act in the history of the MTV EMAs. The five-member band bagged three nominations, including Best Push Artist, Best Group and Best K-pop.
Other notable nominees: Under the MTV EMAs Best K-pop category, other notable Korean acts who have made international waves with their music have also been nominated, including NewJeans, SEVENTEEN, Stray Kids and FIFTY FIFTY.
In the Best Group category, K-pop girl groups aespa and NewJeans and boy band SEVENTEEN also earned spots in the list along with TXT. As for Blackpink, the girl group secured a nomination under the Biggest Fans category.
Notably, South Korean DJ and record producer Peggy Gou was nominated for Best Electronic, while Filipino American artist Steve Lacy earned a nomination for Best R&B.
MTV EMAs details: The upcoming MTV EMAs will take place on Nov. 5 in Paris for the first time since 1995. The event will be held at Paris Nord Villepinte, where it will be broadcasted live on MTV in more than 150 countries.
