A sixth-grade girl is being hailed as a hero by Chinese netizens after she tried to rescue a 2-year-old child falling from a third-floor window to the street below.
On Wednesday, pedestrians noticed the toddler climbing to an open window on the third floor of a residential building in Xingyang, Henan Province while screaming “mama!”, according to Shanghaiist.
People on the streets could do nothing but stare in shock as the child plummeted out of the window.
But one courageous elementary school student jumped into action, immediately running towards the building with arms wide open to try and catch the toddler.
Sadly, the girl was not quick enough.
While a pair of parked scooters appeared to break the fall, the child still hit the pavement pretty hard.
Surveillance footage shows the schoolgirl quickly putting the child in her arms and checking for any injuries.
Thankfully, the toddler was taken to a local hospital where doctors found no serious injures from the incident.
“Though she didn’t catch the child, I still give her a thumbs up for her kindness and courage!” one user on Weibo wrote.
A similar incident occurred in April, when a 7-year-old boy from the Eastern city of Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, survived a 10-story jump using an umbrella as a parachute after trying to imitate a cartoon he watched on TV.
His life was saved thanks to a power line that caught his umbrella on the way down.
