Netflix has released its official trailer for “
The new Netflix show follows a team of anthropomorphic characters as they find themselves in a flurry of battles against ancient monsters from a different dimension. The show’s protagonist, teenage samurai rabbit Yuichi Usagi, is a descendant of Miyamoto Usagi, the great warrior and protagonist of Sakai’s original comic book series. Yuichi is joined by other warriors such as bounty hunter rhino Gen, pickpocketer fox Kitsune and ninja cat Chizu. Together, they embark on a quest that involves more than just saving their city from evil — viewers will be taken on a literary hero’s journey, standing alongside the characters as they embrace friendship and discover what it means to be true warriors.
The official trailer, released on April 1, shows Yuichi touching a huge gem-shaped spacecraft that arrived in the city. Once his fingers brush against the vehicle’s electrical surface, a multi-legged monster with eyes all over its body climbs out, knocking the teenage rabbit down and declaring, “This world will suffer!” Yuichi then gathers his team, seeking advice from what appears to be a ghost bear as they choose their weapons.
Sakai, the Japanese American author and cartoonist behind the original “Usagi Yojimbo,” is one of the show’s executive producers. Several of the other producers hail from large production companies such as Dark Horse Entertainment and Atomic Monster.
The show’s vocal cast includes Darren Barnet as Yuichi, Aleks Le as Gen, Shelby Rabara as Kitsune and Mallory Low as Chizu.
