There is a Very Legit ‘Netflix & Chill Room’ You Can Airbnb for $400
Somewhere in the West Village of New York City is a 1-bedroom apartment officially dubbed the “Netflix & Chill Room”, and it’s available for rent
The room is decked out in Netflix red, includes a “fully stacked mini-bar”, an Apple TV and Netflix account that plays on an HD projector, and has access to the building’s rooftop.
The “Netflix & Chill Room” is the idea of 31-year-old advertiser Tom Galle, 25-year-old artist Moises Sanabria, and 26-year-old engineer Alyssa Davis, who works at the New York-based art company Art404. Sanabria and Davis own the apartment which they share with their team members.
The room launched on 2 p.m. ET on Wednesday and one guest has already booked it for February.
“A lot of our work revolves around Internet culture or popular culture. We loved the idea of bringing a meme to life and offer it as a real experience. The Netflix and Chill meme sort of naturally came up as the right subject to build a project around, and the idea grew automatically from there.”
The hosts plan on leaving the listing up for at least a few months. Galle explained:
“[Our overall goal] is to make a project that makes a mark and gets seen, and it seems to be going pretty well so far. The money is secondary, it’s mostly to keep it going and offer a quality experience … We’ll see how it goes.”
Of course, the whole point of Netflix and chill-ing is to stay in, avoid crowds and not spend money, so the Airbnb room is certainly for the most fancy among us.
