‘Naruto’ Fan Lawmaker Leads Chile’s Presidential Election Poll

The Latin American Strategic Center for Geopolitics (CELAG) interviewed 2,007 people by telephone in March. Among all the candidates included in the presidential opinion poll, Jiles is in the lead at 18%, according to Anime News Network.

She is followed by Daniel Jadue, who received 16%, and Joaquin Lavin, who received 13%. Meanwhile, current Chilean president Sebastián Piñera received a negative rating of more than 70%.

Jiles, a member of the Broad Front coalition, went viral last year after performing the “Naruto run” through congress while wearing a pink cape to celebrate the COVID-19 aid bill she proposed, Reuters reported.

Social media users affectionally called Jiles the “Chilean Hokage” after she went viral. “The Hokage” is a title given to the leader of Konohagakure (Hidden Leaf Village) in the “Naruto” universe.

Jiles was an investigative reporter before pursuing a career in the entertainment industry. In 2017, Jiles was elected to the lower house of Congress and currently represents the lower-income areas of Santiago, Americas Quarterly reported.
