Nike recently unveiled its latest collaboration with Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka, a collection inspired by her time in Japan and New York.
About the collection: The new Nike spread comes with shoes, tops and accessories. They include the newly designed NikeCourt Air Zoom GP Turbo Osaka shoes, an oversized fleece sweatpants, a long-sleeved satin top and a faux fur bucket hat, to name a few.
“All of the prints on the fabrics are so fun and energetic,” Osaka says in a promo video for the collection. “When I see it, I think of youthfulness.”
Inspiration: Osaka, 26, was born in Osaka, Japan, to a Japanese mother and a Haitian American father. Her family moved to the U.S. when she was 3, and she spent most of her childhood in Long Island, New York.
One piece highlighted in a promo video is a brown bomber jacket with Osaka’s name emblazoned across the chest. The words “Japan” and “Haiti” are also printed in light pink on each side of the sleeves.
Reactions: Osaka, who has fallen to No. 314 in the Women’s Tennis Association’s rankings, has remained the world’s highest-paid female athlete in 2022 and one of Nike’s top endorsers. Fans praised her new collection.
“Very nice collection, Naomi,” one Instagram user wrote. Another commented, “You have a wonderful style, keep doing what you are doing.”
