Besides being Asia’s unofficial continental drink, milk tea has now inspired irresistible hair colors.
Salons in countries such as Japan and Singapore have supposedly begun offering hues like that of the beverage, with women sharing their new looks using the hashtag #milkteahair on Instagram.
While milk tea and boba has inspired unique dishes and countless drinks around the world, the combination of milk and tea serves as blueprint for many colorists, who then put their own spin to create various shades.
“It’s a beautiful, creamy beige — not too warm, not too cool, and falling somewhere between light brown and dark blonde,” Allure described the hair trend in an article.
There are many different ways to get milk tea hair, but a common neutral tone could distinguish them from ordinary brunettes.
“When asking your colorist for something similar, you want to stress that you’re looking for a color melt look that starts more warm-toned at the root but transitions to ash on the ends,” Olivia Smalley, a colorist in South Florida, told Allure. “The key here is making sure there is a complete elimination of gold on those lighter ends, while maintaining gold on the roots.”
