Michelle Yeoh has been officially tapped to play a role in the much awaited sequels to James Cameron’s “Avatar.”
According to Deadline, the 56-year-old Malaysian actress will play the role of scientist Dr. Karina Mogue, as announced via the official social channels of the film franchise.

The specifics of the character of Dr. Karina Mogue are currently unclear. Regardless, Cameron expressed that he is looking forward to working with the legendary Malaysian actress in the upcoming “Avatar” projects.
Throughout her career, Michelle has always created unique and memorable characters. I look forward to working with Michelle to do the same thing on the Avatar sequels,” the 64-year-old director said.
Yeoh is famous for her work in many films, including the iconic “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” “Tomorrow Never Dies,” the recent massive hit “Crazy Rich Asians,” and her very own “Star Trek Discovery” spinoff.
“Avatar,” which was released in 2009, remains the highest grossing film of all time. So far, four sequels have been confirmed, with “Avatar 2” set to be released on Dec. 18, 2020.
