Several big names in the Hong Kong movie industry attended a private dinner party to celebrate Michelle Yeoh’s historic win at the 95th Academy Awards show last month.
Yeoh, 60, was the guest of honor at the event held at Hong Kong’s Mandarin Oriental hotel on Friday. She was accompanied by her partner, Jean Todt.
“Ip Man” star Donnie Yen and Yeoh’s “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” co-star Chow Yun Fat can be seen in the pictures she shared on Instagram and Facebook over the weekend.
Other celebrities in attendance include Anthony Wong, Sandra Ng, directors Ann Hui and Mabel Cheung and singers Sally Yeh and George Lam.
“That’s why I want to thank you, each and every one of you, who helped me to be who I am today,” the “Crazy Rich Asians” star reportedly said to her guests while delivering a speech at the event.
Yeoh started her film career in Hong Kong after starring in movies such as 1985’s “Yes, Madam” and 1992’s “Police Story 3: Supercop,” which also stars Jackie Chan.
Besides celebrating her Oscar win, Yeoh also attended the Hong Kong Film Awards, where she presented the best new performer award. Sahal Zaman, 10, won the award for his performance in the Lau Kok-rui-directed film “The Sunny Side of the Street.”
Yeoh’s celebration in Hong Kong came a few days after she visited her family in Ipoh, Malaysia, where she fulfilled her promise to bring her Oscar trophy home to her mother.
Several Facebook users congratulated the “Everything Everywhere All at Once” star for her win, while many of them were also left starstruck by the number of high-profile Hong Kong celebrities who attended Yeoh’s celebratory event.
“Congratulations, you made a great history to all kind of Asian actress,” one Facebook user commented on Yeoh’s post.
“Awesome super stars, legends of HK cinema all there to celebrate your success,” another user wrote in excitement. “Well deserved. The incomparable Ms. Michelle Yeoh, the first Asian actress winning an Oscar!! Wow!! Let that sink in…”
“Awww thank u for sharing these precious photos.. just looking at all of you brings back many good memories of watching tvb and Hong Kong movies! You are all true legends in our hearts,” another user said.
