Michelle Yeoh is taking on the role of an immigrant mother protecting her family in the upcoming thriller “The Mother.”
About the film: Yeoh, who won a best actress Oscar for her role in last year’s “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” is returning to the action genre with the new film to be helmed by French filmmaker Mélanie Laurent (“Galveston”), reported Variety.
Based on the screenplay by P.G. Cuschieri, “The Mother” features Yeoh as a dedicated mother and businesswoman in the U.S. who ends up taking on a criminal organization to protect her sons.
Production and release: “The Mother” is backed by 30West financing and produced by Thunder Road, known for their work on the “John Wick” franchise. While filming for the movie has been set to begin this summer, a release date is yet to be confirmed. Other details about the film are currently under wraps.
Yeoh’s busy schedule: Yeoh recently starred in the mystery horror film “A Haunting in Venice,” Netflix’s “The Brothers Sun” series and Disney’s “American Born Chinese” series.
In addition to her upcoming roles in major franchises like “Wicked” and “Avatar,” the Malaysian star is also set to reprise her “Star Trek: Discovery” character, Emperor Philippa Georgiou, in the new series “Section 31.”
