Celebrated Asian American pro golfer Michelle Wie recently married her longtime boyfriend, Jonnie West, in Beverly Hills, California.
Wie, 29, is a five-time winner on the LPGA tour, who became the youngest player to qualify for a USGA amateur championship at age 10. She turned professional shortly before her 16th birthday in 2005. Meanwhile West, the 30-year-old son of NBA legend Jerry West, is the Director of Basketball Operations for the Golden State Warriors.
The event was attended by some of the couple’s famous friends, including LGPA golfers Danielle Kang, Jessica Korda, Marina Alex, Alison Lee, and Alison Walshe, as well as NBA star Stephen Curry.
“She was so happy, and she looked so radiant,” Wie’s longtime coach David Leadbetter was quoted by Golf Channel as saying. “It’s a great new chapter in her life.”
“I’ve known Michelle since she was 13, more than half of her life. So, it was quite emotional, seeing her get married. She’s going to be a great wife and I’m sure at some time a great mom, in the future,” he added.
West proposed to Wie in San Francisco back in March. Wie announced the engagement by posting a series of engagement photos on her Instagram account earlier this year.
Wie, who participated in a limited number of tournaments due to physical ailments she suffered over the course of several years, was forced to withdraw from play for the rest of 2018 after she was diagnosed with a “small Avulsion Fracture, bone spurring, and never entrapment” in her right hand back in October.
Despite undergoing successful surgery, Wie still had to withdraw mid-way into the first round of the 2019 HSBC Women’s World Championship due to more pain in her hand.
