McDonald’s is Partnering With Nintendo to Bring Back the Best Happy Meal Toys Ever
By Carl Samson
If you happen to visit any McDonald’s branch between April 26 and May 22, chances are you’ll find yourself traveling back in time.
That’s literally the case when you ask for a Happy Meal, which features eight Nintendo toys that strike a chord among nostalgic fans.
Of the toys, six are characters (Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Yoshi, Bowser and a clear, frozen-like Mario) while two are items (the 1-Up Mushroom and a Red Koopa Shell). Each of them has a “special function,” which could be lighting up, making sounds, rolling on wheels or spitting out fireballs, Fortune noted.
McDonald’s and Nintendo’s partnership comes in time for the release of “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe,” which launches on April 28 for the Nintendo Switch.
Of course, this is not the first time McDonald’s and Nintendo have held each other’s hands. The two had similar partnerships decades ago — it was 1989 when Super Mario toys first showed up in Happy Meals, Forbes recalled. Nintendo was marketing “Super Mario Bros 3” at the time.
That being said, it looks like die-hard Mario fans will be up for some collecting these coming days.
Have a Happy Meal!
