McDonald’s Japan is winning praise on social media after culminating its six-part anime series that kicked off in late September.
About the finale: The final episode, which was released on McDonald’s Japan’s X account Sunday, shows a woman using her phone and relaxing in her room while eating a McDonald’s meal. A relaxing background music accompanies the 21-second ad.
Previous episodes: The first episode was released on Sept. 20. It features a small family sharing a take-out meal in their home:
Succeeding episodes featured a group of teens hanging out, adorable monsters on a road trip, a high school couple on a date and siblings eating at McDonald’s. Each episode has received tens of millions of views on X.
Who’s behind it: The “late night” ad series was created by Japanese artist Uraura Ura-chan. In his own X post, the animator thanked those involved in its production and everyone who watched it.
What people are saying: Social media users praised McDonald’s Japan for its wholesome anime series. One X user wrote, “Shame it was a limited campaign, these ads were fantastic! Some of the best marketing McDonald’s has ever had.”
Not their first anime: McDonald’s Japan previously collaborated with Tetsuo Hara, co-creator of “Fist of the North Star,” in December 2022 to create a campaign featuring a character inspired by the popular manga and anime franchise.
McDonald’s U.S. also dropped a nod to the anime “Hataraku Maou-sama!” for a promo video in August, surprising its manga illustrator Oniku.
