Sony is Making a Korean American Woman ‘Spider-Man’ Series on Amazon

In 2018, a film about the character was reported to be in the early stages of development, but no director, writer/s or actors were attached.

 

Silk, who hails from the “Spider-Man” universe, is Korean American. She was first introduced in 2014’s “The Amazing Spider-Man #1” as a classmate of Peter Parker’s.

Silk’s real name is Cindy Moon. Like Parker, she was also bitten by the same radioactive spider that granted her superpowers, including incredible speed, organic webbing abilities and an advanced Spider-Sense known as Silk Sense.

Sources told Variety that a live-action series is now in the works at Sony, which controls the rights to the “Spider-Man” universe. Lauren Moon, whose credits include Netflix’s “Atypical,” is said to be in charge of the script.

Meanwhile, Amazon is in talks to be the series’ distributor, sources told Deadline. However, it might land on a linear platform first, along with other in-development shows based on Marvel characters Sony controls.

Sony signed a deal with “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller in April 2019. This allowed the duo to oversee the suite of TV series based on Marvel characters under Sony.

Lord and Miller are executive producing under their Lord Miller banner, along with “Spider-Man” franchise producer Amy Pascal. No actors have been attached as of this writing.

Tiffany Espensen played Cindy Moon in 2017’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” She then reprised the role in “Avengers: Infinity War” the following year.

Should the project carry on, Silk will be Sony’s first Marvel character to get the live-action series treatment.
