‘Caring and Considerate’ Chinese Man Faces J‌a‌i‌l After Marrying, Having Kids With 3 Women in One City

In just three years (2015 to 2017), the man, identified only by his surname Zhang, was able to get hitched by ab‌usi‌ng a loophole in China’s marriage system where he married each wife in a different province, according to Weibo via Shanghaiist.

 

The 36-year-old man, who owns a real estate company in the city and is originally from Luoyang in Henan province, decided to get each of his wives an apartment in Kunshan all within a 1 kilometer (3,280 feet) radius to make his travel from one house to another more convenient.

Zhang would often make over a dozen trips back and forth between these three households using the alibi that he was going on business trips.

Despite all the lying and cheating, Zhang’s second and third wife told the media that he was a good husband, and he didn’t fail in supporting them thanks to his booming real estate business. Zhang was described by his second wife as “caring and considerate,” even noting that he would always wash the dishes after he uses them.

However, this didn’t save him from all the repercussions as his second wife reported him to the p‌olic‌e after discovering the fact that he was also married to the other two women.

Zhang is now charged with polygamy and may face a jail time of up to two years. The man, who has at least one child with each of his wives, claimed that he was not aware at the time that simultaneous marriage is a cri‌m‌e.

It was said in the report that his first wife, the woman he had a legal marriage with, had already divorced him.

“After I get out, I will see who can forgive me and I will be with her,” Zhang told reporters, referring to his other two wives.
