Man Manages to Check Teen Out of High School, Now They are Both Missing
A 45-year-old man somehow managed to check a 16-year-old girl out from school 10 times from November to February; now, authorities revealed, the pair are missing.
On Wednesday, police officers issued a missing person’s report for Kevin Esterly and Amy Yu of Allentown, Pennsylvania after their whereabouts could not be determined. Authorities have also issued an arrest warrant on Esterly for interference with the custody of a child, according to ABC.
Yu’s mother initially called the police on February 9 after she discovered that Esterly had checked Yu out of Lehigh Valley Academy, according to court documents. She would again call the police on February 15, resulting in authorities telling Esterly and his wife, Stacey, to stop going to the Yu residence. Court records did not reveal the nature of the couple’s visit.
When officers interviewed the teenager, she stated that Esterly had checked her out of school approximately five times. Investigators would later discover, however, that the man had signed her out of school ten times between November 13 and February 9. Her parents did not give Esterly permission to do so.
Yu was reported as a runaway by her mother on Monday. Police followed up with Stacey Esterly, who told them that she hadn’t seen her husband since 6 a.m. that morning. She also revealed that he had withdrawn $4,000 from her bank account and had taken some personal documents.
Esterly and Yu were last seen near her home in Allentown and are likely in Esterly’s 1999 red Honda Accord.
