Man’s Blood Turns White After Eating 4 Mooncakes A Day

A Chinese man’s blood turned milky-white after his triglyceride level spiked for eating at least three to four mooncakes every day because he was worried that the pastries would go to waste.
The man, identified as Wang from Hangzhou, China went to the hospital for his check-up this month. However, medical staff were surprised to see the blood taken from sample was thick and cloudy, AsiaOne reported.
After some testing, it was revealed Wang’s triglyceride level in his bloodstream was 10 times higher than what is considered to be average at 16.6mmol/L.
According to Mayo Clinic, triglycerides are a type of fat (lipid) found in the body. Calories that are not used right away are converted into triglycerides and are stored in the fat cells. It is then released later by hormones to give the body energy between meals.
However, high levels of triglycerides can lead to serious complications such as thickening of the artery walls, increased risk of stroke, heart attacks and other heart-related diseases.
For Wang, having an increased level of triglycerides can be fatal if left untreated as he was reportedly a uremic patient who regularly underwent dialysis due to kidney failure. Fortunately, he was able to recover from what happened after immediate treatment.
Wang’s alleged reaction from hearing the news was to ask, “Does this mean I won’t be able to enjoy mooncakes anymore?”
Mooncakes are delicious, but Wang’s doctor warned that the pastry packs a huge amount of sugar and fat, adding 50 grams of salted egg yolk in a mooncake already contains 14 grams of oil, which is equivalent to three teaspoons.
