An elderly Singaporean man was unable to hold back his tears after a Malaysian teen returned his missing wallet containing over S$1,000 (approximately $727).
Zhou Liangxin, 80, was returning to his niece in Kluang, Malaysia, after visiting family in Seremban on Friday when he accidentally got off at the wrong bus stop. He then realized that he had also left his wallet containing S$1,000 (approximately $727) and RM$600 (approximately $136) on the public bus.
A Malaysian teen found the wallet and asked the bus company’s employees to help locate the wallet’s owner. Staff members informed the cousin of Zhou’s niece, who bought the ticket, and she forwarded the message to the niece. Zhou’s niece then arrived at the bus station where she found the teen waiting for her.
“I met the young man at the bus station at around 5 p.m. and received the wallet from him,” Zhou’s niece told Malaysia’s China Press. “He was already waiting for me at the station at that time, for about an hour.”
To express his gratitude in person, Zhou and the teen met on Saturday through a meeting arranged by the 80-year-old’s niece. As a show of appreciation, Zhou insisted that the teen accept a red envelope; however, the teen refused. Zhou reportedly was unable to hold back his tears after being moved by the teen’s kindness.
Zhou’s niece pointed out that her uncle also met several other kind people that day, including two individuals who gave Zhou a ride back home.
