Disney’s live-action remake of “Lilo & Stitch” has found its David Kawena in up-and-coming actor Kahiau Machado, who will play the love interest of Lilo’s older sister Nani.
The upcoming film has already cast Sydney Elizabeth Agudong as Nani and Maia Kealoha as Lilo. Zach Galifianakis will play the alien Pleakley, and Billy Magnussen is currently cast in an undisclosed role. Stitch will be rendered using CGI.
Dean Fleischer-Camp, who was behind the Oscar-nominated hit film “Marcel the Shell With Shoes On” will direct the remake. Chris Kekaniokalani Bright is writing the script and Dan Lin will co-produce alongside Jonathan Eirich and executive producer Ryan Halprin.
“Lilo and Stitch” released in 2002 and was nominated for best animated feature at the 75th Academy Awards. It centers around a young girl named Lilo Pelekai who lives with Nani, her older sister and legal guardian. Lilo’s life takes an unexpected turn when a genetically engineered blue alien named Stitch crash-lands on Earth. Mistaking Stitch for a dog, the two go on several adventures and eventually discover the true meaning of family, all while avoiding nosy social workers and dangerous aliens chasing after them.
The “Lilo and Stitch” remake is slated to premiere on Disney+. An official release date has yet to be announced.
