Critics were not impressed after Chinese MMA fighter Xu Xiaodong destroyed a much older “Kung Fu master” under kickboxing rules.
The outspoken 40-year-old fighter, who has made it his mission to expose “fake Kung Fu,” defeated 56-year-old Tian Ye with ease over the weekend in China.

Observers are now suggesting he takes on a more credible challenge in the form of Yi Long, a 31-year-old Wushu and Sanshou kickboxer who expressed willingness in fighting Xu over a year ago.
In 2017, Yi wrote on his Weibo social media account that he would not tolerate Xu’s belittling of traditional martial arts, branding him a “shameless fraud.”
Yi, aka the “fake Shaolin monk,” actually has experience in Muay Thai and kickboxing, unlike the numerous traditional martial arts fighters Xu has defeated so far.

Self-trained in Shaolin Kung Fu, Yi previously billed himself as the “No. 1 Shaolin Kung Fu monk” in his fights. However, a Shaolin Temple spokesman disputed his claims as he “is neither a Kung Fu monk of Shaolin Temple nor could he be named as the No 1 Shaolin Kung Fu monk at all.”
He competes in the Super Welterweight, Welterweight and Super Middleweight divisions with an impressive record that currently stands at 61 wins (23 (T)KOs), 12 losses, and 1 draw.

With multiple championship titles such as the WCK World Champion for 2015, Yi is certainly no pushover and can give Xu a tougher challenge.

While a deal hasn’t been completed yet, it has been reported on Chinese media that local promoter MAS Fight expressed interest in booking a fight between Yi and Xu, South China Morning Post reports.
