K-pop’s first openly gay singer Holland has recently revealed that he has a boyfriend whom he wants to marry during a livestream with his fans.
Holland, whose real name is Go Tae-seob, opened up about his personal life during a livestream event on March 24, revealing that he is now seeing someone after being asked multiple times by fans.
Describing his boyfriend, the 26-year-old “Neverland” singer said he is “very handsome and kind, tall.” He later told his fans, “I want to marry him.”
Holland did not go into details about his boyfriend’s identity; however, he did reveal that his new beau is not an idol, actor or someone from his industry.
Many of his fans congratulated the couple on Twitter. One fan wrote, “Ok but Holland having a boyfriend and feeling comfortable/safe enough to share that on Twitter just made my day.”
“Damn I’m so happy for you, I want you to be very happy, but at the same time I also want a boyfriend,” another fan said.
“Happy for you babe, but also lowkey wanna be the boyfriend huhuhuhu,” wrote another.
Holland became the first openly gay K-pop idol in South Korea after making his debut in January 2018 with the single “Neverland.” The music video received a 19+ rating in the country for featuring a rare, same-sex kiss scene — the first in K-pop’s history — as NextShark previously reported.
Holland previously revealed that he came out in middle school and decided to become a singer so he could become the voice for LGBTQ plus youth. In fact, his stage name was inspired by the Netherlands, which was the first to legalize same-sex marriage.
“There are not many celebrities in Korea who speak up for human rights. I thought there’s got to be someone like me who discloses their sexual identity,” he said.
Holland released another music video featuring a same-sex romance in 2019 for “Nar_C,” the lead track of his self-titled EP.
The K-pop singer is set to make his acting debut in the BL (Boy’s Love) drama “Ocean Likes Me,” which stars Holland as the main lead alongside Han Gi-chan and Song Tae-yoon. The eight-episode series premieres in April.
