Korean Store Worker Goes Viral for Protecting Customers During Intense Earthquake

CCTV footage via Channel A News shows the store in the southern port city of Pohang in total chaos during the earthquake around 2:30 p.m., as items flew off the shelves and cameras shook.

Customers and staff can be seen terrified hiding under tables and desks. But one brave store employee got every netizens’ attention when he came to the aid of two female customers at the counter who were ducking during the violent tremors.

Their heads were exposed to possible falling debris. So to protect them from injuries, the employee quickly grabbed as grocery basket in front of him and covered the two women’s heads.

“It was shaking a lot and I didn’t know what was happening. But the customers were scared and I thought maybe they’d get hurt because something might fall on their heads,” the man explained when interviewed by the news channel, as translated by AllKpop.

Many people are sending good vibes to the man for his heroic actions.

“Wow, he’s amazing… most people would put their own safety first..,” “He’s so cool,” “He looks so young but he’s already like this,” one commenter wrote.

The rare earthquake was so powerful that some people reported the tremors hit the country’s capital, Seoul, according to South China Morning Post.

This is reportedly the second most powerful earthquake ever recorded in the country. A 5.8-magnitude tremor hit the southeastern city of Gyeongju in September 2016.

Fortunately, no casualties have been reported despite the powerful magnitude of the earthquake.
