Keanu Reeves to Star in Live-Action AND Anime of Hit Comic He Co-Created
By Ryan General
Keanu Reeves is set to both produce and star in an anime series and a live-action film based on “Brzrkr,” a new comic that he co-wrote and co-created.
Released as a 12-issue limited series earlier this year, “Brzrkr” (pronounced “berserker”) has already sold over 615,000 copies for BOOM! Studios. It has become the publisher’s highest-selling debut in almost 30 years, reports Variety.
Reeves wrote the hit comic with New York Times bestselling writer Matt Kindt. Rafael Grampá worked on the character designs and covers of the series, while Marvel artist Ron Garney did the illustrations.
The “Brzrkr” on-screen universe will make its Netflix debut as a live-action film adaptation, with the anime series to follow.
Reeves will produce the projects alongside Ross Richie and Stephen Christy of BOOM! Studios and Stephen Hamel of Company Films.
“The anime series will further expand the BRZRKR universe by exploring different elements of the story,” an Instagram post from BOOM! Studios revealed. “In the series, Reeves will reprise his role and voice his character.”
Reeves, who has recently wrapped up production on “The Matrix 4,” is also set to begin production on “John Wick: Chapter 4” this year.
