Kamala Harris Drops Out of 2020 Presidential Race

After several months of struggling in the polls, Senator Kamala Harris has officially dropped out of the 2020 presidential race, stating that the campaign no longer had the financial resources necessary to continue.
Harris’ poll numbers have steadily declined, including in the senator’s home state of California, as she experienced trouble growing her core group of supporters ahead of the June debates.
“My campaign for president simply does not have the financial resources to continue, and the financial resources we need to continue,” Harris said in a video announcement posted to her Twitter account.
“I’m not a billionaire and I can’t fund my own campaign. And as the campaign has gone on, it has become harder and harder to raise the money we need to compete.”
She continued, “It is with deep regret but also with deep gratitude, that I am suspending our campaign today. But I want to be clear with you, I am still very much in this fight. And I will fight every day for what this campaign has been about. Justice for the people. All the people.”
She is the third Democratic presidential candidate to drop out within 48 hours, after Montana governor Steve Bullock and former congressman Joe Sestak ended their bids for the presidency, cutting down the Democratic primary field to 15 candidates.
According to The New York Times, the top five Democrats who are leading the 2020 presidential race currently are Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Pete Buttigieg and Andrew Yang, in that order.
Harris’ decision to end her presidential bid reportedly came after discussions with family members and senior aides on Monday. She will travel to several states this week to thank her supporters and staff members for their dedication to her now-suspended campaign.
Harris has vowed to do “everything in [her] power to defeat Donald Trump and fight for the future of our country” despite no longer running for president.
