JYP Entertainment announced the members its newest boy group, Nexz, on Friday.
About the group: The rookie J-pop group will consist of seven members, including Tomoya, Haru, Yuuki, Ken, Yu, Yuhi and Seita. They are the winners of the second season of “Nizi Project,” a survival talent show in which contestants battle it out to become part of a new J-pop group.
At the season finale on Friday, J.Y. Park said the group will be known as Nexz, shorthand for “Next Z(G)eneration.” The K-pop industry legend said he hopes Nexz “will open the future of the new generation.”
What they are saying: The members were chosen after besting the competition in dancing, singing and star quality. They vowed to continue to do their best, saying, “As you gave us a great opportunity, we will show you how we develop to meet your expectations.”
“Nizi Project” is a collaboration between JYP Entertainment and Sony Music Entertainment Japan. The first season saw the creation of J-pop girl group NiziU.
“Miracle” released: JYP on Sunday dropped a performance video of Nexz’s “pre-release” song called “Miracle.” As of press time, it has amassed nearly 5 million views.
Park reportedly wrote the song after being inspired by the show, its contestants and their shared dream. A Korean version was also released on Sunday.
Nexz on Monday appeared on Nippon TV’s “Day Day.” Their official debut date is yet to be announced.
