Watch: JY Park performance leaves Korean celebs looking shocked and confused
South Korean singer and entrepreneur JY Park, founder of JYP Entertainment, gained viral attention for his recent live performance at the 44th Blue Dragon Film Awards.
JY Park’s performance: Park’s medley performance on Nov. 24 in Seoul included original songs like “When We Disco” and “Changed Man,” as well as covers of the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams” and a-ha’s “Take On Me.” His elaborate performance featured him in a white coat dress with spiked hair and dark eye make-up before a costume change to a purple bodysuit.
In a viral video edit uploaded to TikTok, the celebrities’ responses were compared to those during NewJeans’ performance, where smiles and applause were prevalent, with some noting singer-actress BIBI appearing emotional during the girl group’s act.
Online reactions: Fans also expressed a range of reactions to JY Park’s now-viral performance. Some viewers speculated that the singer intentionally sought to be a topic of discussion while others praised his willingness to experiment, respecting his passion for being on stage at the age of 51.
“I think every inch of this performance is fully intended. JYP always wants to be the talk of the town,” one person wrote.
“All the fun and cringe aside, I respect that he still follows his passion even at that age. Hard to find someone wanting to be on stage and doing this kind of performance in that age,” another person commented.
