John Cho Suffers ‘Freak Accident’ Filming Netflix’s ‘Cowboy Bebop’, Delays Production 9 Months

John Cho sustained a knee injury on the set of Netflix’s “Cowboy Bebop” in New Zealand earlier this month, setting production back by seven to nine months.
Sources claimed that the “freak accident” occurred on “the last take of a routine and well-rehearsed scene,” according to Deadline.
Cho plays Spike Spiegel in the 10-episode live-action series, which was adapted from the original 26-episode anime by Sunrise studio.
According to Variety, his character is described as an “impossibly cool bounty hunter with a deadly smile, a wry wit and style to spare,” who traverses the solar system with his ex-cop partner Jet (Mustafa Shakir).
“‘Water can flow or it can crash,’” the 47-year-old quoted Bruce Lee. “Thanks for all the well wishes everyone. Gonna be back and flowing in no time!”
Fellow “Cowboy Bebop” stars Shakir and Elle Satine replied to Cho’s post with positive messages.
“Big love cowboy!” Shakir wrote. “We got this.”
Sean Maguire, who had worked with Cho in The WB’s 2001 sitcom “Off Centre,” cheered him up.
“I still don’t get why you were rollerblading in drag in the first place.”
Cho has since returned to Los Angeles for surgery and an “extensive rehabilitation.”
“Cowboy Bebop,” a co-production between Netflix and Tomorrow Studios, also stars Alex Hassell (who plays Vicious, Spiegel’s nemesis) and Daniella Pineda (Faye Valentine).
