Jesse Q. Sutanto novel ‘Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice for Murderers’ to get series adaptation
Jesse Q. Sutanto’s novel “Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice for Murderers” will be getting a series adaptation produced by Mindy Kaling’s Kaling International after its rights were acquired by Warner Bros. TV.
Sutanto’s novel follows Vera Wong, a lonely widow living in San Francisco’s Chinatown who after waking up one morning to find a dead body in her struggling tea shop decides to start her own investigation and solve the case.
Sutanto grew up in Singapore and Jakarta, Indonesia, before completing her master’s degree in creative writing at the University of Oxford. She is the author of “Well, That Was Unexpected,” published last year, and the upcoming “I’m Not Done With You Yet.” Sutanto’s “Dial A for Aunties,” published in 2021, was optioned by Netflix for an adaption by Nahnatchka Khan and Chloe Yellin.
Kaling is currently signed to a six-year deal with Warner Bros. TV to produce, write and develop various projects across all of their platforms. Through the partnership, Kaling has created “The Sex Lives of College Girls” and “Velma.” Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Films is also attached to produce the new series.
