More than five years after its epic announcement, Super Nintendo World will finally open at Universal Studios Japan on Feb. 4, 2021.
The park, which started construction in 2017, was initially scheduled to launch with the Tokyo Summer Olympics but was also pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over the weekend, Universal Studios Japan released a 47-second teaser of the park, beginning with the world’s first interactive “Mario Kart” ride (“Bowser’s Challenge”).
Each kart accommodates up to four riders, and while no one is actually going to be steering, Koopa shells will be available to grab and throw at opponents during the “race,” according to SoraNews24.

Those shells, as well as other visual effects, are likely part of the ride’s augmented reality experience, which will require guests to wear special Mario cap headsets.
As seen in the teaser, the park also features a recreation of Bowser’s Castle, Princess Peach’s Castle and a more relaxed ride called “Yoshi Adventure,” in which riders follow a treasure map to collect three mysterious eggs.

For an additional fee, the park offers an interactive wristband called Power Up Band, which will allow guests to collect virtual coins by punching question mark blocks spread across the area.
The band is also needed to participate in the “Power-Up Band Key Challenge,” an attraction that requires a set of three keys that will unlock the entrance to a final battle against Bowser Jr.

On Oct. 16, Universal Studios Japan opened a separate Mario Cafe & Store in its Hollywood area. The spot offers exclusive food, drinks and merchandise.
Needless to say, Super Nintendo World appears to have more in store for guests.
