Japan Now Has Gourmet Sake-Flavored Kit Kats And They Are Alcoholic
By Carl Samson
A new sake-flavored Kit Kat developed with a respected local brewery is coming out in Japan this month.
For those who may not know, Nestlé Japan released its first sake-flavored Kit Kat last year for the souvenir market. Those wafers were covered in white chocolate with 0.8% of alcohol.
This time, the new sake-flavored Kit Kat is being marketed for those with refined tastes, SoraNews24 says. According to the outlet, the premium product was developed for a year with the help of Masuizumi, an esteemed sake brewery based in Toyama, and Hidetoshi Nakata, a former football player who happens to be a sake enthusiast.
Nestlé picked Masuizumi from more than 100 breweries for the crisp dry finish of its sake that blends perfectly with the company’s white chocolate wafers. The brewery has been operating since 1893.
Nakata, on the other hand, appears to be the product’s ambassador whose goal is to promote the appreciation of sake around the world. His passion for the Japanese rice wine led him to opening his own brand called “N” last year.
The new product, officially called “Masuizumi Japan Sake Kit Kat,” will be available by mid-September for 700 yen (about $7) per box. Each box has nine individually-packaged bars. A serving has 0.4% of alcohol (no for kids and those with allergies).
But back to the burning question that everyone wants answers to — how many of these delicious treats would you need to eat in order to feel drunk?
Unfortunately, it’s not a simple answer, as it all depends on your alcohol tolerance; some people only need a glass of wine before they feel woozy while others need an entire bottle. But according to Rethinking Drinking, we can actually determine how many sake candies you’d need to feel buzzed.
If we were to compare it to a can of beer, sake-flavored Kit Kat connoisseurs would need to eat 125 Kit Kat bars to have the same effect as a canned brew. Stacked against a regular glass of wine, and it’s evident you’d need 300 of the candies to start feeling good. Want to replace your shot of hard liquor with these white chocolate goodies? Then you’d need to eat 1,000 of them to match that alcohol content. And that’s only for one shot!
Suffice it to say, you can eat an entire box of these bad boys and still drive home safely.
If sake isn’t your thing, Japan’s Kit Kats are available in other unique options, such as the “Cough Drop,” which reportedly comes as a “fresh and invigorating flavor.”
