‘Aquaman’ Director James Wan Calls ‘Aquaman’ Oscar Snub a ‘F**king Disgrace’

Director James Wan has criticized the Academy of Motion Arts for excluding his blockbuster hit film “Aquaman” on its award shortlist for the best visual effects.
Wan has called the snub a “f**king disgrace” in a response to a Facebook comment by Kelvin McIlwain, the visual effects supervisor on the DC superhero movie.
In his comment, McIlwain congratulated the director for his work on their project.
Replying to McIlwain, Wan wrote “you and your department are the unsung heroes of this film. The fact that your VFX peers in the Academy aren’t recognizing or appreciating what we/you’ve all contributed to the film and cinema is a f****ing disgrace.”
“I’m with you, James. It was a complete shock to everyone that we are not in the final 10 films that will be presenting at the Academy VFX Bake-off,” McIlwain replied.
Films in the shortlist include “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” “Avengers: Infinity War,” “Black Panther,” “Christopher Robin,” “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” and “Mary Poppins Returns,” among others. The Oscar nominations will be announced on January 23, while the awards show is scheduled on February 25.
Aquaman, which features actor Jason Momoa as the titular superhero, has earned nearly $900 million worldwide so far, becoming the highest-grossing film in the DC Extended Universe.
