James Hong, Ming-Na Wen Finally Get Hollywood Star Along With Other AAPIs
By Ryan General
Legendary actor James Hong and three other Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) artists will be getting their own stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Hong, Ming-Na Wen, Jason Momoa and singer/songwriter apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas are among the newest list of entertainers to be honored with the prestigious recognition, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced on Thursday. The AAPI honorees will be part of the Class of 2022, including 34 other stars from film, television, radio, theater and sports.
Hong, 92, is regarded as one of the most prolific actors in Hollywood, with hundreds of film and TV credits under his name.
Working in a variety of roles since the 1950s, Hong has been featured in the crime series “The New Adventures of Charlie Chan,” “Chinatown,” “Blade Runner,” “Mulan” and “Kung Fu Panda,” among others.
Last year, actor Daniel Dae Kim launched a campaign and raised over $55,000 in a few days to help get Hong his star on the Walk of Fame. Kim celebrated the announcement with a tweet on Friday.
Wen, a certified Disney Legend, also took to social media to celebrate the recognition.
Wen has starred in numerous critical and blockbuster hits, such as “Mulan,” “Ralph Breaks the Internet,” “The Joy Luck Club,” and more recently, “The Mandalorian.” Fans of the medical drama series “ER” (1995–2004) have come to know Wen for her role as Dr. Jing-Mei “Deb” Chen.
Jason Momoa, who is known for his superhero role “Aquaman,” shared his elation about his inclusion on the new list on Instagram.
Apl.de.ap is getting his Hollywood Walk of Fame star with the rest of the Black Eyed Peas members for the recording category. The Black Eyed Peas, which rose to fame with the 2003 single “Where is the love?” has since become one of the best-selling groups of all time, with an estimated 75 million records sold.
The honorees, chosen from hundreds of nominations, were confirmed by the Hollywood Chamber’s Board of Directors on June 16. No dates have been set yet for the star ceremonies.
