The famous 60-foot-tall “Rubber Duck” art installation by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman has returned to Hong Kong with a friend after first appearing in Victoria Harbour 10 years ago.
About the “Double Ducks”: Two giant inflatable ducks were spotted in the waters off Tsing Yi ahead of Hofman’s latest exhibition, “Double Ducks,” which will launch on June 10. The yellow ducks are set to sail around Hong Kong for two weeks.
Hofman’s new installation is meant to represent unity.
“Due to Covid-19 we learned that spending time together is so valuable,” Hofman said in a statement. “Making moments and memories for real, living in the here and now, are things to cling on to. ‘Double Ducks’ is not about looking into the past but enjoying the moment together.”

“Happiness icons”: Hong Kong-based creative studio “All Rights Reserved” is organizing the exhibition. According to the studio, the “Double Ducks” are “happiness icons” that aim “to spread the healing power of art.”
Background: Hofman’s first installation, “Rubber Duck,” debuted in 2007 with the aim of “putting a smile” on people’s faces. It has since appeared in cities around the world, including Seoul and Los Angeles.
Hofman is known for creating large versions of everyday objects, including bath toys, paper boats and animals.
