Henry Golding, star of “Crazy Rich Asians,” is taking on a new role in the upcoming film, Hong Khaou’s “Monsoon.”
The 33-year-old actor plays Kit, a British Vietnamese man, as he returns to Saigon for the first time in 30 years after fleeing the Vietnam-American War.
The exclusive world trailer was released on March 20, according to Just Jared.
“Struggling to make sense of himself in a city he’s no longer familiar with, he embarks on a personal journey across the country that opens up the possibility for friendship, love, and happiness,” the plot summary reads.
The British drama, which was written and directed by Hong Khaou, first premiered at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in June 2019.
Many critics who have seen “Monsoon” said the movie was gorgeously shot. Some called it a “sensitive portrait of cultural displacement.”
The official description calls it “a rich and poignant reflection on the struggle for identity in a place where the past weighs heavily on the present,” Out reported.
The movie also features Parker Sawyers, the American actor who played young Barrack Obama in “Southside With You.”
While there is no official premiere date yet, “Monsoon” is expected to be released sometime in 2020.
