Hasan Minhaj set to host 2023 Film Independent Spirit Awards
Hasan Minhaj has been chosen to host this year’s Film Independent Spirit Awards.
The awards ceremony, which celebrates independent cinema, will be held on March 4 in Santa Monica, California.
In a statement on Tuesday, Film Independent President Josh Welsh shared why the 37-year-old comedian is the “ideal host” for this year’s event.
With his unparalleled ability to bring both humor and perception to the issues around us, Hasan Minhaj is the ideal host to help us celebrate these independent artists. We can’t wait to see what surprises he has in store for the Spirit Awards on March 4th.
Minhaj, who is also a writer and producer, has appeared in several TV series and films, including “The Spy Who Dumped Me,” “Arrested Development” and “The Morning Show.” From 2018 to 2020, he was the host of Netflix’s “Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj,” which won an Emmy Award, a Peabody Award and two Webby Awards.
Leading the Film Independent Spirit Award nominations this year is “Everything Everywhere All at Once.”
The film’s eight nominations include a pair of Best Supporting Performance nominations for Jamie Lee Curtis and Ke Huy Quan, a Best Leading Performance nomination for Michelle Yeoh, a Best Director nomination for the Daniels, a Breakthrough Performance nomination for Stephanie Hsu and a Best Feature nomination.
