Golden West College has placed Tarin Olson, the woman now infamously known for telling an Asian-American couple to “go back to their home country,” on leave while they conduct their investigation into the incident.
The leave will last for two weeks, the school said in an announcement on Tuesday, which will include her online classes as well. By then, the organization’s investigation into the incident should be concluded, and they will have determined whether or not Olson will continue her tenure at Golden West College.
A spokesperson for the institution said that all faculty and staff are expected to follow a specific code of conduct, including avoiding “conduct which is in violation of the public trust or which creates a justifiable impression among the community that such trust is being violated,” she said.
As for future updates, the spokesperson stated they will be few and far between, as the incident happened off campus and involves school personnel.
Tony Kao, the man who uploaded the videos, has since updated his post to reflect his thoughts on the matter:
“We have no intention of seeking out or besmirching the offender’s personal life or career. It is our hope the offender is aware and apologetic for what she has said to us, but all we can do is hope.”
On Monday, Olson said in an email to the Daily Pilot that she was “not in a good place emotionally after receiving so many disgusting emails …. for something that wasn’t even racist and was then skewed by a guy named Tony who filmed me without my permission.”
Olson has been employed with the organization since 1991; according to ratemyprofessor.com, she currently has an average rating of 4.3 out of 5 stars.
This is a developing story; Nextshark will continue to update accordingly.
