What to expect: The two locations will feature references to several iconic Studio Ghibli movies, such as sculptures of the Okkoto-Nushi and the Tatari-Gami from the 1997 film “Princess Mononoke” in Mononoke Village.
Meanwhile, the Valley of Witches will take inspiration from other Studio Ghibli classics, such as Kiki’s house and the bakery from the 1989 film “Kiki’s Delivery Service” and the hat shop from the 2004 film “Howl’s Moving Castle.”
First teased: Ghibli Park’s Phase 2 was mentioned in February, with local media briefly showing the construction process of the upcoming area. The 18-acre park also announced that they were looking to add rideable Catbuses inspired by the 1988 film “My Neighbor Totoro.”
About the park: Located in Aichi Expo Memorial Park in Nagakute, Aichi Prefecture, the 34-billion-yen (approximately $242 million) park first opened its doors for visitors on Nov. 1, 2022.
Ghibli Park’s Phase 1 has three available areas for guests: Ghibli’s Grand Warehouse, the Hill of Youth and Dondoko Forest.
