George Takei Forgives Accuser After Sex Assault Claim is Retracted
By Carl Samson
George Takei forgave Scott Brunton, the former model who accused him of sexual assault, after the latter walked back his allegation in an article published last week.
Back in November, Brunton claimed that Takei drugged and groped him one night in 1981 after a drink.
“The next thing I remember I was coming to and he had my pants down around my ankles and he was groping my crotch and trying to get my underwear off and feeling me up at the same time, trying to get his hands down my underwear,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.
But in a new interview with the Observer, Brunton retracted key details and “in his effort to be listened to, [he’d] fabricated some things.”
As it turned out, Brunton does not remember Takei touching his genitals. In addition, he does not remember going out for coffee with Takei two years later.
Brunton said he considers his tale “a great party story” instead of a life-changing trauma.
“I rarely thought of it. Just occasionally, if his name popped up. I’d say, ‘Oh, well, I’ve got a story for you!’ They go, ‘Really? What?’ I’d tell people, and they’d go, ‘Ew!’
“He was 20 years older than me and short. And I wasn’t attracted to Asian men. I was a hot, surfer, California boy type, that he probably could have only gotten had he bought, paid for or found someone just willing to ride on his coattails of fame.”
According to the Observer, Brunton’s anger toward Takei started in late 2017 when the “Star Trek” actor criticized Kevin Spacey for coming out of the closet amid a pedophilia claim.
“When power is used in a nonconsensual situation, it is wrong,” Takei said at the time.
Apparently, that comment triggered Brunton, but all he really wanted was Takei’s apology. He does not see Takei as a criminal.
“I just want him to apologize for taking advantage of our friendship,” Brunton said, adding that the incident was “just an unwanted situation.”
In response to these new details, Takei, who has since denied Brunton’s accusation, tweeted on Friday:
“As many of you know, this has been a very difficult period for myself and my husband Brad as we have dealt with the impact of these accusations, but we are happy to see that this nightmare is finally drawing to a close.
“As I stated before, I do not remember Mr. Brunton or any of the events he described from forty years ago, but I do understand that this was part of a very important national conversation that we as a society must have, painful as it might be.”
He wished his accuser peace.
“It is in that spirit that I want folks to know, despite what he has put us through, I do not bear Mr. Brunton any ill will, and I wish him peace.”
