“Crazy Rich Asians” and “Captain Marvel” actress Gemma Chan will receive the prestigious Women in Film Max Mara Face of the Future Award.
Chan celebrated the big news by attending the Max Mara Fall/Winter 2020 Show in Milan, Italy on Feb. 20 as well as the dinner the night before the show, according to Just Jared.
In an interview with InStyle, Max Mara owner Nicola Maramotti described the 37-year-old actress as a rare talent in the industry.
“When women support each other the potential for success is limitless. Gemma is a rare talent that personifies confidence and poise with effortless glamour,” Maramotti said. “Max Mara has always been about empowering and inspiring women through its masterful design, and we are so proud to recognize Gemma this year with the WIF Max Mara Face of the Future Award.”
Chan received her big break, acting in the hit rom-com movie “Crazy Rich Asians” before she was cast in Marvel’s “Captain Marvel” as the Kree Minn-Erva. She was later cast in a role in Marvel’s upcoming “Eternals” movie, which makes her one of the few lucky talents to land two roles in Marvel movies.
“Gemma exemplifies the WIF Max Mara Face of the Future Award; she is an extraordinarily versatile and talented actress working on stage, film, and television,” executive director of Women In Film, Kirsten Schaffer, told InStyle. “Her groundbreaking roles often defy racial stereotypes and range from captivating performances in Crazy Rich Asians to women-directed films like Mary Queen of Scots, Captain Marvel, and the upcoming Eternals.”
In addition to her acting career, Chan also works as a UNICEF U.K. advocate. She recently traveled to Kingston, Jamaica to bring awareness to domestic violence.
