A professor from the University of Central Florida has received backlash for a tweet that many found to be racist.
Psychology professor Charles Negy posted a question on Twitter asking if systemic racism would still “exist” if Blacks “had the same behavioral profile” as Asians.
“If Afr. Americans as a group, had the same behavioral profile as Asian Americans (on average, performing the best academically, having the highest income, committing the lowest crime, etc.), would we still be proclaiming ‘systematic racism’ exists?”
The tweet drew immediate backlash online, with many pointing out the logical fallacy he used in such a comparison.
Some highlighted the difference between the two racial groups and called him out for pitting people of color against each other.
Asian Americans lectured the professor on the “model minority myth”:
Many commenters demanded Negy to be penalized for such a remark, with many calling out to the University of Central Florida administration to get him fired.
Actor Ken Jeong also offered his response to Negy:

UCF is currently conducting an investigation over the tweet, according to BuzzFeed News. As of this writing, Negy’s tweet remains online and he is still an active professor at the school.
On Thursday, Negy spoke to Spectrum News 13 and justified his tweets, saying that he’s been “saying things for 10 to 15 years.”
“Now people are on Twitter addressing the riots and police brutality. If you don’t have certain views aligning with certain ideology, their reaction is to attack you,” he said.
“What astonishes me is there are people who proclaim they want civil rights, but they seem unconcerned if they violate the civil rights of other people. There are social groups who profess they are all for civil rights, but if I don’t agree with their views, they are willing to violate my civil rights.”
Negy, who has taught at UCF since 1998, is the author of “White Shaming: Bullying Based On Prejudice, Virtue-Signaling, And Ignorance”.
