6 children orphaned after their parents killed in car crash in Michigan
Six Filipino children are now orphaned after their parents, Ryan and Jennifer Ambrosio, were killed in a car crash in Michigan.
What happened: On Jan. 6, the couple from Farmington Hills was driving home from a date night when suspected carjackers, evading police, crashed into them head-on at around 1:30 a.m. on the Lodge Freeway near Civic Drive. Ryan, 45, and Jennifer, 43, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspects: According to the Michigan State Police, the suspects include a 35-year-old man from Romulus and his 29-year-old female passenger from Detroit. They are reportedly in serious condition but are expected to recover. The man was reportedly driving a stolen truck, and in an effort to escape from troopers, he turned off his headlights and drove in the opposite direction of traffic.
The criminal case has been transferred to the Oakland County prosecutor, and charges against the two suspects are expected once the investigation is complete.
The orphaned children: Ryan and Jennifer Ambrosio leave behind six young children, aged 2 to 9. A GoFundMe campaign organized by their family has raised over $360,000, as of this writing.
“They were so loved by so many of us,” organizers Brandi Burke and Christina Rodriguez wrote. “Their families, friends, church, and community groups are reeling from this shocking loss. The greatest impact of this tragedy is (and will continue to be) on their six young children: Amelia, Maria Grace, Faustina, Benedict, Raphael, and Julian. Ranging in age from 2-9 years old, they now have to navigate life’s ups and downs without their parents by their side.”
According to the organizers, the Ambrosio children are now with extended family. The funds will support the extended family’s commitment to raising the children together in a “safe and loving home.”
