Reality TV star Kim Kardashian reportedly flew home carrying $250,000 in cash in a trash bag following a night of gambling with disgraced billionaire Jho Low in Las Vegas in 2009, recently surfaced FBI documents revealed.
Low, who is currently wanted by international authorities, is accused of masterminding a scheme to steal $4.5 billion from the Malaysian state-run economic fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
A known playboy and socialite, the 41-year-old fugitive is notorious for his extravagant spending and partying lifestyle. He has been linked to a number of high-profile individuals, such as Kardashian, Leonardo DiCaprio, supermodel Miranda Kerr and Fugees member Pras Michél, among others.
According to the FBI documents, the agency questioned Kardashian in 2019 over her friendship with the international fugitive.
The report stated that in 2009, Kardashian played a game of baccarat with Low and film producers Riza Aziz and Joey McFarland inside a private room at a Las Vegas casino. Kardashian was about to leave at 5 a.m. but decided to stay after a friend told her that Low had a reputation for giving people chips at the end of the night.
Low won a big hand that night following bets that Kardashian picked and ended up gifting her chips worth over $350,000. When the social media star cashed out her winnings, the casino counter handed her a trash bag filled with hundred dollar bills amounting to $250,000. She collected the rest of the money in a following Las Vegas trip to party with Low again.
Low also reportedly gave Kardashian $305,000 in cash and $100,000 for fireworks at her wedding to NBA player Kris Humphries in 2011.
With the amount, Kardashian bought a white Ferrari but later sold the car to buy a Lamborghini using Humphries’ name.
In 2014, when Low offered to give an original Jean-Michel Basquiat painting to Kardashian, she and her then-husband, Ye — formerly Kanye West — instead requested a work by Claude Monet to “mess with Low because both Kardashian and West found Low to be very fickle when giving gifts and never expected to actually receive a painting.”
Citing U.S. government documents and legal filings, Bloomberg reported that the Malaysian fugitive was also extremely generous with his other celebrity friends.
Low reportedly donated a $3.2 million Picasso and a $9.2 million Basquiat to DiCaprio’s charity and gave Kerr jewelry worth around $8 million. He also funded the Martin Scorsese-directed film “The Wolf of Wall Street,” which stars DiCaprio. Following the investigation against Low, both DiCaprio and Kerr eventually turned over the items Low had given them to the U.S. government.
