Family Offers $25K Reward for Info on Fatal Hit-and-Run in Minnesota

A Minnesota family is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of the driver behind a fatal hit-and-run.
Choulykor Vue, 26, was on a walk with his girlfriend around 8:30 p.m. last Saturday when he was struck by a speeding car and suffered severe head trauma.
The Maplewood Department of Public Safety released a statement on the night of the crash, saying how both the police and fire department personnel were dispatched to the intersection at Lakewood Drive North and Beaver Creek Parkway (1200 block of Lakewood Drive North) in Maplewood.
However, medical aid proved futile and Vue was pronounced “deceased at the scene.”
Sergeant Joe Steiner elaborated more on the incident in a Tuesday Maplewood Police Department live press conference.
MPD detectives scoured the area for surveillance footage around the intersection but were ultimately unable to identify the striking vehicle and its driver.
Steiner did reassure that they have “a lot of promising leads that are coming in and are following up on,” including a witness who came forward to describe “the striking vehicle as an SUV or Crossover.”
The Minnesota State Patrol is also reconstructing the accident scene and in the process of gathering and reviewing all the evidence currently available.
The MPD thought the suspect vehicle would have “heavy front-end damage,” but after further review, they instead believe it would have “damage…underneath the vehicle or around the bottom side.”
The sergeant was joined by Gaocher Yang, Vue’s older sister, and the 13 other family members standing behind her.
“All we want is justice and peace,” she said, and their mother Yerlele, echoing the same sentiment.
Describing Vue as a man “loved by many people,” the family is “pleading the public” for its help in solving his case.
“My brother didn’t deserve this,” Yang said, her voice breaking. “If you have any information at all, please come forward.”
The reward comes directly through the family, not the MPD.
Yang explained the family’s reason for the high reward to ABC 5 Eyewitness News saying, “I cannot believe someone left him to die and that’s why we are offering the reward so my mother and our family can have closure.”
According to Steiner, possible charges for the striking vehicle suspect are on the low-end — leaving the scene of an accident — or on the higher-end — felony, a criminal vehicular homicide charge.
Vue’s memorial service is scheduled for Oct. 25, and the burial service will be held the day after.
The family is also accepting donations for funeral expenses via PayPal at nukivue55@gmail.com, and Facebook Pay at NtsibHnubiCi Vue, or Genouchy Vue who can be reached at (863) 832-0004.
The MPD asks that anyone with information on the hit-and-run direct their call to Sgt. Joe Steiner at 651-249-2608 or email Joe.Steiner@maplewoodmn.gov, instead of reaching out directly to the family.
