Virginia Detectives Suspect Foul Play in 72-Year-Old Woman’s Disappearance From Home

Fairfax County Police Department detectives suspect foul play may have been involved in the disappearance of 72-year-old Emily Lu.
What happened: Authorities arrived at Lu’s home in Davis Lane, Lorton, on June 4 to conduct a welfare check at the request of the woman’s employer when she failed to show up for work, according to the police department.
- Police found Lu’s car in her driveway with the groceries she purchased at Aldi in Gordon Plaza in Woodbridge on June 3.
- During the investigation, detectives found evidence suggesting Lu may have been attacked in her home.
- Authorities spoke with Lu’s neighbors but to no avail. A family member also gave police a Belle Haven address that Lu frequently visits, but officers did not find her there.
- Police have set up a $20,000 reward to help find Lu, NBC News reported.
Other details: Joshua Embery, a Prince William County private investigator from the Nighthawk Investigative Service, formed a search team with the local community to help locate Lu, WUSA9 reported.
- Jenny Ball, daughter of Lu, told Dateline everything seemed fine when she last spoke with her mother on June 3, adding that there was no indication that something was off.
- Lu worked in software development before her retirement. She spends most of her retirement working for Home Instead Senior Care.
- Ball added her mother has been renting the rooms of her Lorton home to tenants for three decades.
- Lu is described as a 5-feet-2 tall Asian woman and weighs about 130 pounds (58.9 kilograms). She has brown eyes and brown hair.
