“Expend4bles,” the fourth installment of “The Expendables” franchise, will feature a Vietnamese rap song.
Who’s behind it: Vietnamese rapper Binz, 35, confirmed Tuesday that his 2020 hit song “Bigcityboi”will appear in the film. He said the movie’s production company, Millennium Films, invited him to collaborate last year.
Following its release, “Bigcityboi” topped YouTube’s trending list in multiple countries, including Vietnam, the U.S., Canada and Australia. Created with Vietnamese DJ and producer Touliver, the song contains trap elements and an addictive chorus that glamorizes city nightlife.
Why this matters: Binz gained popularity after appearing as a judge in the local game show “Rap Viet.” He sees the inclusion of “Bigcityboi” in “Expend4bles” as a win for representation.
“I hope the feature of my song in the movie will contribute to spreading Vietnamese language and Vietnamese rap music worldwide,” he said, according to VNExpressInternational. The song will not be edited and remain in its original format.
About the movie: Directed by Scott Waugh, “Expend4bles” will see the return of Sylvester Stallone as Barney Ross. Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren and Randy Couture will also reprise their roles, while Megan Fox, Andy Garcia, Tony Jaa, Sheila Shah, Levy Tran and Iko Uwais will star as newcomers.
The film hits cinemas on Sept. 22.
