The film’s nominations include a Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy nomination; a pair of Best Supporting nominations for Jamie Lee Curtis and Ke Huy Quan; a pair of Best Director and Best Screenplay nominations for duo Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert; and a Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy nomination for Michelle Yeoh.
“Everything Everywhere All at Once” is the second-most nominated film after Martin McDonagh’s “The Banshees of Inisherin,” which received eight nominations.
Three other Asian-led films have also received nominations. South Korea’s “Decision to Leave” and India’s “RRR” are up for Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language while Disney’s “Turning Red” has been nominated for Best Motion Picture – Animated.
Film and TV projects released in the 2022 calendar year were eligible for nomination.
Mayan Lopez and Selenis Leyva from NBC’s “Lopez vs. Lopez” announced the nominations on Monday morning live from the Beverly Hilton in California.
The award show is returning this year from a hiatus due to last year’s boycott of the ceremony by the entertainment industry, triggered in part by a February 2021 report from the Los Angeles Times that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) had no Black members and allegedly conducted unethical financial practices.
Since then, the HFPA has implemented new changes, such as barring members from accepting gifts and creating a hotline for reporting misconduct. They also added 103 internationally based voters and 21 U.S.-based journalists working for international outlets. The HFPA has been acquired by Eldridge Industries and has become a for-profit organization.
The forthcoming 80th Golden Globes will be hosted by American comedian Jerrod Carmichael and will air on Jan. 10, 2023, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on NBC and Peacock. This is the final year the Golden Globes will air on NBC per its deal with the network.
