A TikTok video showing English students having a wholesome “rap battle” in Mandarin has gone viral.
Key details: Shared on TikTok by user @havu2904 on July 7, the video has since garnered over 3.4 million views.
It shows a group of English students asking and answering questions in the style of a rap battle.
What happens in the clip: In Mandarin, one student asks another, “What does your dad like to eat?” to which another student responds, “My dad likes to eat rice,” prompting the other students to cheer.
Another boy then enters the pit and asks his opponent, “What are your hobbies?” The other responds as if he is dropping hard bars, saying, “My hobby is playing football.”
About the video: The wholesome “rap battle” was reportedly filmed to promote Berkhamsted Boys School’s foreign languages program during its virtual open house event in June, according to 8 Days.
The video was also reportedly shared on Instagram, where the school explained that the students, aged 11 and 12 years old, had only started learning Mandarin 10 months prior.
Other videos: This is not the first time Berkhamsted students have made a video demonstrating their Mandarin skills.
A video uploaded to the Berkhamsted School YouTube channel in 2019 shows students singing various songs in Mandarin, including the 2017 viral hit “Baby Shark.”
