For the history-making phenomenon that it was, it comes as no surprise that many wanted to be part of Warner Bros.’ “Crazy Rich Asians.”
Among them is Dwayne Johnson, who had to call his friend, director Jon M. Chu, after learning things a little too late.

“The Rock did call me — he was mad that I didn’t call him for this one,” Chu told Access Hollywood at the red carpet of Sunday’s Screen Actors Guild Awards, where the movie was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
The 39-year-old director added, “He was like, we’re so proud, blah blah blah, why didn’t you call me for this?”

Chu and Johnson worked together in the 2013 sci-fi action film “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” which also stars Bruce Willis, Channing Tatum and Byung-hun Lee.
The movie received several accolades, with Johnson being nominated for Choice Movie Actor: Action at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards and Favorite Male Butt Kicker at the 2014 Kids’ Choice Awards.

However, “Crazy Rich Asians” star Ronnie Chieng is not exactly thrilled about “The Rock” joining the cast.
“The Rock is in like every single movie,” Chieng joked, prompting laughs from his co-stars. “Hey Dwayne, take a seat for one movie. Can you do that, for one movie? Can you give us our one thing?”
He went on, “If you’re not happy come look for me, alright? You got my Twitter, you got my Instagram, anytime — let’s go rumble.”

While Johnson missed “Crazy Rich Asians,” cast member Awkwafina joins him in the sequel of “Jumanji.”
“The only thing I can tell you is that obviously she’s a new character. I’m so excited to embark on that journey,” Awkwafina told Variety about her character.
Interestingly, she’s also a fan of “The Rock.”
“Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, he shouted me out on his Instagram, and I was like, ‘What! That’s so cool man!’ I think my high school English teacher was like, ‘Dude you’re on the Rock’s Instagram, and I was like, ‘What? That’s so cool man!’”

“Black Panther” won Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture at the SAG Awards, besting “Crazy Rich Asians,” “A Star is Born,” “BlacKkKlansman” and “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
